The first is that we begin with a rock known as manganese ore. This rock is removed from the earth and comes to our factory. Manganese ore is then subjected to a process called electrolysis. Electrolysis is a method that uses a flow of electrical current to cause the decomposition of the manganese ore.
Then the manganese ore is mixed with a solution referred to as electrolyte. This solution helps separate the manganese from other items in the ore by the use of electrical current. Electricity is run through the solution, and the manganese that collects on the left side of the electrolysis can be soft and powdery or hard and brittle. This accumulated manganese is the electrolytic manganese that we know of.
Manganese electrolyte is introduced into the steel-making process to improve the material quality. It helps by stripping away undesirable substances and making the steel a bit stronger and more resistant to rust. Without electrolytic manganese, the steel we use day-to-day would not be as strong or as long-ling.
